The Real Story
Sustainability isn't a marketing campaign for us — it's how we've operated since 1989. We own and run our own tannery in Ambato, Ecuador, which means we control every step of the process and answer for every decision we make.
100% Natural Bovine Leather
Every hide we use is natural bovine leather, tanned and cut at our own facility in Ambato. No synthetic materials, no shortcuts. The leather is a by-product of the food industry — the animal is never raised for leather alone.
Regulated & Monitored
Our tannery operates under strict oversight from Ecuadorian environmental authorities. We maintain our own water treatment plant to ensure all wastewater meets the required standards before it leaves our facility.
Zero Leather Waste
Every leather scrap from our production is reused. Nothing goes to waste. Offcuts become smaller goods and components, keeping our material usage as efficient as possible from the first cut to the final product.
Local Community
Every person who works in our tannery comes from the same mountain community in Ambato. This is a family business built on local labor — not outsourced, not faceless. The same hands, the same families, for over 35 years.
The Plastic Problem Nobody Talks About
Many brands promote "vegan leather" as an eco-friendly alternative. In reality, most of it is PU — a plastic-based material that sheds microplastics, doesn't biodegrade, and ends up in landfills within a few years. Real leather, made responsibly, biodegrades naturally and lasts decades.
At DIAZ, we believe the most sustainable choice is a product built to last — made from a natural material, by real people, in a facility we own and stand behind.
